Pete Simon brings over 20 years of experience in user experience (UX) design, user research, and human-computer interaction to his work with Kuleana.work and the Kuleana AI Lab. As a founder of these initiatives, Pete has been instrumental in fostering innovation and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs on Kaua‘i. His work focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as generative AI, to help local businesses and non-profits grow, adapt, and thrive.
In 2024, Pete was honored with the Digital Pioneer Award by the State of Hawaii Broadband and Digital Equity Office for his leadership in advancing digital literacy. His free consultations and workshops on cybersecurity, AI customization, and emerging digital tools have directly benefited Kaua‘i’s business community. Over the past year, he has hosted periodic public discussions on generative AI, equipping local organizations with practical knowledge to navigate and capitalize on technological advancements.
Currently serving as a Sr Principal Designer/Researcher for a Fortune 5 company, Pete designs user-friendly AI solutions and conducts research into emerging technologies. His professional background includes Masters work in Human-Computer Interaction, specializing in user research, brand development, and affective computing. He has also contributed to the development of custom generative AI models and published articles on spatial computing, showcasing his ability to bridge complex technical concepts with real-world applications.
As the founder of the Kuleana AI Lab, Pete has championed programs that enable Kaua‘i’s small businesses to integrate AI tools into their operations, providing measurable benefits in efficiency, scalability, and innovation. His efforts have been integral to the lab’s mission of enhancing the island’s economic resilience through technology.
